I'm Luke McKenzie, a horologist, musician, comic artist, and programmer in Philadelphia, PA.
Clocks and watches have captivated me since age two. I care for a modest collection and have come to specialize in electric and industrial horology, especially Solari split-flap clocks. I'm often found volunteering at the NAWCC Museum and School.
I am also a web developer and consultant focusing on integrations with the Tessitura CRM, having served both as a Tessitura API/integration consultant and as a longtime Tessitura client at Perot Museum of Nature and Science and Dallas Opera. I hold a BA and MFA from the School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Why “Dial and Hands”?
Of all the things to love about a clock or watch, this is what I’m most drawn to, and will make or break it for me. The dial and hands communicate not just the time of day, but the maker’s best wishes for the timepiece’s usefulness – an ethos I hope is echoed in my own work. They’re also a reminder of the importance – and satisfaction – of maintaining human-scale analog tools in an increasingly digital world.
I provide consulting services via Dial and Hands LLC, established here in Philadelphia. Dial and Hands takes over for The Clock Spot, my home on the Internet since 2006.
